Performance im Rahmen der Berlin Art Week

Ersan Mondtag and Nadim Samman are staging a Berlin-style *vanitas* at the Gemäldegalerie, creating a dialogue between living and deceased Old Masters.

Serving as a bridge between theater and museum, a living tableau unfolds throughout the entire collection, hovering between exhaustion and reinvention, disappearance and permanence.

Serving as a bridge between theater and museum, 25 performers from different generations bring a tableau vivant to life—in scenes that oscillate between transience and renewal, disappearance and endurance.

The participants include renowned actors, singers, dancers, and figures from Berlin’s nightlife scene, among them Frank Büttner, Eva-Maria Keller, Sema Poyraz, WestBam, and Louis Hofmann.

Each 90-minute performance takes place in different rooms of the Gemäldegalerie. Visitors decide for themselves when and for how long they wish to watch the individual performances.

  • Unclothed performers will appear during the performance. Please take this into account when deciding whether to attend.

A co-production of the Berliner Ensemble and the Gemäldegalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin
