The stage is empty and there is only one rule: anything that is about to happen here must be publicly announced beforehand.

“Anything Goes” is an improvised performance with extremely modest means. The promise of a break with the past and a new beginning marks the start of the evening. In this respect, the performance follows on directly from “Bullshit”, She She Pop’s previous show on the HAU1 stage, in which the theatre space was symbolically sold off.

What follows now is “poor theatre” in the sense of a disarmingly unguarded encounter. It begins with a microphone and an open list on which the performers submit their ideas and wishes, rules and proposals as an unsorted script for the evening.

Spontaneously feasible suggestions follow on from spectacular visions whose realisation seems utopian. And whilst the announcements pile up at the microphone, the performers are already beginning to put them into practice. Some things remain roughly sketched out, others are spelled out in detail, but nothing is to be lost.

What is this turning into: a funeral service? A swap meet? A séance? A truth tribunal? “Anything Goes” is an exercise in collective imagination, individual initiative and collaboration. And a celebration of the unique present moment in the theatre.
