Reimagining Time Through Body, Nature, and Sensation

The audience is invited to become part of an evolving performance – do come along to move, rest, observe and experience time in a different way.

Meanwhile, the team brings the results of our residency to life through performance, dance, sound and vocal explorations. Inspired by the warmth of a fire during the cold season, they are opening the doors of their studio to you all.

Enjoy a warm, playful time in a relaxed atmosphere – whether you’re actively taking part or simply watching.

What happens when time is no longer dictated by the ticking of a clock?

The MANATIS collective explores forms of time shaped by bodies, sensations and the rhythms of nature. When we perceive time, we experience it as it unfolds – an interweaving of memories, detours and blurring boundaries between actual events and what we have already (re)invented. Here, playfulness is not a distraction, but a way of savouring time to the full: they embody its transformations whilst their bodies drift through a constant flow of expected and unexpected moments.

Whether it is the time of a bird, a mountain, a river, a chronically ill body, or even geological or capitalist time – every temporality follows its own logic. How often do different temporalities actually come into conflict with one another?

Drawing on ‘Crip Theory’, queer perspectives and ecological observations, the collective challenges the prevailing linear understanding of time, which is based on productivity, efficiency and control. Instead, they explore temporalities that arise from exhaustion, stillness, repetition, interruption, instinct and a heightened sensory perception. Their residency process combines choreographic research, movement practices inspired by animal behaviour, rhythmic experiments and collective dramaturgy – always based on accessible methods that adapt to the group’s changing needs and energies. Stillness and one’s own pace are not limitations here, but creative, productive forces.
