‘20 years of vigil, (no) reason to celebrate’ – this slogan is still valid today.
It is sad that the vigil is still urgently needed. But it is encouraging that for 25 years, people have been standing on Spandau Market Square with our banner every first Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Even in heat, rain, wind and cold. And they welcome anyone who would like to join the vigil in the future - Monika Auener for the vigil group.
Background
In September 2000, the vigil was initiated by the AG Asyl, the AG ‘Christians and Jews’ and the Youth Work Office in the Spandau church district in response to racist attacks throughout Germany. Their cause, ‘Vigil for tolerance and peaceful coexistence – against racism, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia,’ is still valid today. They also appear on other occasions, such as the commemoration of the Hanau attack in 2020.
Programme

- 11 a.m. Event on the market square in Spandau's old town with welcoming remarks by Superintendent Florian Kunz and musical accompaniment by the Al Samar drum group
