On 28 November 2026, the LiteraturInitiative Berlin invites you to its annual literature festival, featuring magnificent readings, from 11.00 am at the Schwartzsche Villa in Berlin-Steglitz.

What makes this Steglitz literature festival special is that the pupils from our literature courses, as well as children and young people from all Berlin boroughs, will be taking on roles on the day as hosts, presenters, book recommenders, project organisers and hall stewards.

Once again this year, the children and young people are inviting their favourite authors. Highlights of the festival include Daniela Dröscher, Elisa Hoven, Holly-Jane Rahlens and the actor Steffen Groth. The wonderful programme is complemented by a book raffle, as every visitor should go home with plenty of books.

From children and young people right through to adults, everyone is warmly invited to engage in personal discussions about literature and to explore culture and society. A particular focus of this year’s programme is the themes of ‘anti-Semitism’ and ‘cultural diversity’.

In 2003, Berliner Leseratten e.V. was founded as a social project. Since 2006, under the name LiteraturInitiative Berlin (LIN), the project has continued its mission of instilling a love of reading and literature in children and young people. The aim is to encourage them to see themselves as active participants in cultural life and to share their own opinions and reading experiences with responsibility and respect, including towards one another. Our aim is to enable young people from all social backgrounds to gain access to these skills. Particularly in Germany, a country where the gap between social classes is widening ever further, it is more important than ever to provide every young person with an equal education. For before there can be equality of opportunity, equality in education must be established – and LiteraturInitiative Berlin is committed to this goal.
