For two decades now, under the direction of Berlin-based composer Daniel Glatzel, the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra has continued to amaze audiences time and again. They marvel at how such a musical fireworks display can be kept burning so consistently.
The AMEO’s music is wild, unconventional, haunting, atmospheric, witty, and rousing—all at the same time. It draws on musical elements from a wide variety of cultural contexts, all with a nonchalance that borders on the audacious.
Since its founding in 2006, the ensemble has continually reinvented itself. There are over 120 works composed and arranged specifically for this astonishing ensemble, most of them written by ensemble director Daniel Glatzel.
The grand concert at the Radialsystem in Berlin kicks off this anniversary celebration. It can hardly be a coincidence that not only the ensemble but also the venue itself is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year.
To mark this double anniversary, visitors can look forward to works by the orchestra from various creative phases over the past decade, as well as new pieces whose artistic focus will be, above all, one thing: surprising.
The Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra was named the first recipient of the German Jazz Prize for Large Ensembles in 2021, nominated again as “Ensemble of the Year” in 2024, and honored once more as “Live Act of the Year” in 2025.
