Perspectives on critical remembrance work then and now

Introduction and presentation of the online exhibition by members of the exhibition team. Panel discussion with Stella Flatten,Prof. Dr. Thomas Lindenberger and Sabine Weißler. Moderation: Cornelia Siebeck

On May 5, 1985, around 60 people came together for a "remembrance action" on the site of today's Topography of Terror Documentation Center - at the time a wasteland on the edge of West Berlin. With a symbolic excavation, they drew attention to the National Socialist past of the site and campaigned for the establishment of a permanent "memorial site".

The "1933-1945 Nachgegraben" campaign was not only an important milestone on the way to the Topography of Terror Foundation, but also serves as an example of contemporary remembrance activism "from below". 40 years on, it is now being commemorated with an online exhibition, online from 20.5.2025.
