The rbbKultur children's concert series with the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin (DSO) celebrates its 100th anniversary on Sunday, 24 September 2023 with music by Bernstein.
The programme features rousing dance music by Leonard Bernstein, led by conductor Holly Hyun Choe and moderated by Christian Schruff.
Since 2005, the rbbKultur children's concerts with the DSO have enjoyed great popularity. For the 100th edition, the orchestra presents 'The Bernstein Beat: What Makes Music Dance' with excerpts from Bernstein's most popular works such as the famous musical 'West Side Story'.
Beforehand, young music fans will have the opportunity to get to know various orchestral instruments, have their faces painted, do handicrafts, sing and much more at the Open House in the foyer.
While conductor Holly Hyun Choe takes over the musical direction, presenter Christian Schruff takes the concert-goers on an entertaining and interactive journey of discovery.
The conductor Holly Hyun Choe, who grew up in Los Angeles, graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston in 2015 and completed master classes with Simone Young and Karina Canellakis, among others. From 2020 to 2022, Choe will lead the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich as assistant conductor to Paavo Järvi. In the 2022/23 season, she successfully debuted with other renowned orchestras.
