Three days. Five plays. Two countries. A city in the grip of premiere fever. Whilst the ancient classics are performed every year on hundreds of stages from New York to Tokyo, contemporary voices from Greece and Cyprus remain a rarity on the international stage. From 20 to 22 November 2026, that is set to change – and the Greek Theatre Festival Berlin (GTFB) will raise the curtain for the very first time.

The newly established cultural event will celebrate its glittering debut with an exclusive opening reception at the Greek Embassy in Berlin, before continuing its main programme at the tak Theater Aufbau Kreuzberg.

This will create, for the first time in the capital, a permanent platform entirely dedicated to contemporary Greek and Cypriot drama.

DATES: 20–22 November 2026

VENUES:

Opening: Greek Embassy in Berlin

Main programme: tak Theater Aufbau Kreuzberg

For three days, Berlin will become the epicentre for theatre performances, audience discussions, music and the visual arts. The spotlight will be not only on the performances on stage, but also on the written word itself – and the creative minds behind it. Renowned playwrights will be in attendance to offer insights into the creation of their plays after the performances and to answer questions.

The festival sees itself as a vibrant meeting place for Berlin’s Greek-speaking community, who long for theatre in their mother tongue – and equally as a warm invitation to German-speaking and international audiences to discover extraordinary productions that are rarely seen on the local cultural scene.

The detailed programme and performance times will be announced in early October. Advance ticket sales will begin in mid-October.
