Under the motto “Democracy Needs a Culture of Remembrance,” the program for the Days of Culture and Remembrance will take place throughout Berlin from August 22 to September 5, 2026. The focus will be on the history, culture, and remembrance of Germans from Russia, late repatriates, and displaced persons. Among other things, the event marks the 85th anniversary of Stalin’s decree, which came into effect on August 28, 1941, in response to Nazi Germany’s brutal invasion of the Soviet Union, and which marked the beginning of the deportation of Germans from the Soviet Union.
