75th anniversary of the Grundgesetz (Basic Law)
Since the end of May, the German Bundestag has hosted a publicly accessible exhibition space dedicated to the dialogue between art and politics.
The opening exhibition features works by nineteen international artists who engage with fundamental rights in surprising, critical, reflective, and sometimes humorous ways.
In addition, 1,572 schoolchildren, adults, and seniors have participated in workshops, the results of which are also on display.
During the course of the exhibition, the participating artists will be presented in the lower exhibition area through so-called "focus shows," which feature additional works and series.
These focus shows change every two months.
From May 21 to July 20, the focus is on Kubra Khademi, Boris Mikhailov, and Marc Jung. In the nearby Wall Memorial of the German Bundestag, Harald Hauswald’s Texas Box will be on view until October 5, 2025.
The artists involved:
- Tuli Mekondjo (Article 1 of the Basic Law)
- Adi Hoesle (Article 2 of the Basic Law)
- Monica Bonvicini (Article 3 of the Basic Law)
- Ilit Azoulay (Article 4 of the Basic Law)

- Fatoş İrwen (Article 15 of the Basic Law)
- Guillaume Bruère (Article 16a of the Basic Law)
- Thomas Locher (Article 17 of the Basic Law)
- Marc Jung (Article 18 of the Basic Law)
- Boris Mikhailov (Article 19 of the Basic Law)
- Barbara Wrede (workshop project) and 1572 participants in her project
The artists involved represent an enormous breadth of contemporary art and thus a wide variety of access points and means of starting a dialogue about the Basic Law. A universe full of possibilities has been created, a space full of stories and ways of discovering these and comparing them with individual experiences. It is an exhibition about US: who we are and want to be, today and in the future.
