The mosque on Brienner Straße in Wilmersdorf is a special place of remembrance.
It is the oldest surviving mosque in Germany and is still used by the congregation today.
The route from Fehrbelliner Platz to the mosque was the site of some highly unusual construction projects in the mid-1920s. These projects shaped the “upscale neighborhood” and reflected a new zeitgeist and the curiosity of the educated middle class. You’ll learn about a religious building—now preserved only in photographs—that still surprises architecturally today, and discover a residential building by Hans Scharoun, whose unconventional ideas exemplify the progressive spirit of the era.
The dome-shaped structure is Berlin’s largest crematorium at the time, complete with its columbarium. The highlight of the tour is a visit to the Wilmersdorf Mosque, offering a comprehensive look at the historical background of its construction as well as the interior of its rooms.
You will also take a virtual tour of another extremely unusual religious building that, unfortunately, no longer exists. It was just as striking in this area as the mosque itself, was built almost at the same time, and is likely to be a surprise for many participants.
Perhaps even more surprising: the even larger, equally magnificent mosque project in Charlottenburg at the time—on Lietzensee.

The Wilmersdorf Mosque
It is sometimes confidently referred to as the “Berlin Mosque.” And: it is one of the most beautiful mosques in the world. At least for the man in the hat.
It sits quite openly on a corner lot. And yet, many people passing by simply overlook it.
Those who do discover the Wilmersdorf Mosque are often hesitant to approach it. So beautiful, yet so foreign.
Discover this architectural gem on an exclusive guided tour that concludes with a visit inside.
