Bockwindmühle Marzahn

As long as the sails keep turning…

The highlight of Alt-Marzahn is the post windmill which proudly stands on a small hill, its sails reaching to the sky. Simply a reminder of past times? Not at all: the Marzahn post windmill is fully functional and even has a state-of-the-art wind monitoring station. Try some of the grains of rye which are used to make the tasty “Marzahner Mühlenkruste” bread. And explore the wooden interior of the mill: it’s amazing to see the huge wheels, shafts, hoppers and precise engineering! What’s surprising but typical for Marzahn is that it’s not just used for milling grain but also to get married in. The post windmill has become a popular branch of the Marzahn-Hellersdorf registry office.
