This year, the area around the Humboldt Forum is taking on a Christmas atmosphere. The new winter market on the historic Schlossplatz is bringing a merry atmosphere to Berlin's historic centre. Last time, the Ferris wheel and Christmas stalls were set up in front of the ruins of the Palace of the Republic.
In keeping with the historical setting, there is plenty of arts and crafts and historical craftsmanship to marvel at at the new winter market in Berlin's Mitte district. Watch the fragile figures being created over a flame at the glassblower's stall. Nativity figures are made at the woodcarving workshop, and the candle stall smells of beeswax.
