Cinema Archive – Studio Cinema
In 2026, Doc Night explored the theme of family from various perspectives. To round off the year, Daniel Abmas’s film examines the possibilities of the chosen family.
For over a year, he follows three carers as they work in a residential group with five boys. Although they are all different, the children are united by the desire to return home one day. The carers are committed to making this happen. They do not want to be substitute parents, yet with a great deal of understanding and empathy they create a kind of family environment in which the children are well looked after.
A gentle yet all the more poignant film that takes its time to capture everyday life and the bonds between people, whilst highlighting how family can take shape beyond traditional structures.
