Sheena McGrandles
“all over you” explores spaces of lesbian desire through intimate queer friendships and literary forms of queerness: circular, permeable and wonderfully unpredictable.
Pair dances emerge and dissolve again. Joy and lust take on darker tones as the piece ventures deeper into past experiences and seeks out new forms of desire.
On a stage carpeted in deep purple, the intense physical duet between Sheena McGrandles and Eli Cohen unfolds, accompanied by the music of the Japanese sound artist Tot Onyx.
Their bodies pass through fragile, physical states: tightly entwined yet simultaneously brimming with energy that bubbles up and pushes beyond boundaries.
Together, the two dancers explore intensities, touches and resistances. They question how desire manifests itself in various forms – and where it might arise. The agency shifts between them as they surrender, swap roles and explore those physical and social surfaces that connect or separate them. They linger in the paradox of desiring across distances, in a longing that unfolds through delays, indecision and historical ruptures. Thus, following on from their acclaimed duet “as long as you want”, they continue their exploration of the forms of lesbian desire.
“all over you” tastes sweet precisely where it hurts, and hurts precisely where it is most alive.
