Inspired by the philosopher Donna Haraway, he develops a tentacular understanding of the world and challenges binary orders, heroic narratives and hierarchical conceptions of humanity. With a distinctive literary style, Graeff writes about queerness, ecology, polycrises and forms of coexistence based on solidarity.
The venue for the book launch ties in with the book’s content: in his opening speech for Queer Weeks 2023, Alexander Graeff, director of BrotfabrikLiteratur, had already spoken about queer octopods and moles. Since then, the octopus has been a welcome guest at the Brotfabrik.
On the evening of the event, he will once again engage in dialogue – this time with jellyfish and dogs as well. At the invitation of Stefan Kreißig, director of the BrotfabrikBühne, Alexander Graeff will read from his new book and discuss with Nadine Kube how we might develop tentacles.
Alexander Graeff is a writer, philosopher and literary educator. He is head of the literature programme at the Brotfabrik Berlin cultural centre, is active in the Queer Media Society to promote greater queer visibility in the German-speaking literary scene, and founded the reading series ‘Schreiben gegen die Norm(en)?’. He writes poetry, prose and essays and lives in Berlin.
Nadine Kube is a content strategist and editor, coach and lecturer in marketing and creative writing. She loves weaving together common threads and has dedicated her work to the art of narration and communication. Under her label txt.werkstatt, she works on conceptual projects centred around storytelling. Her motto: ‘Identity needs a language.’ She lives in Potsdam and North Frisia.
