Literature LIVE

A turn of the year, a phone call, a house on fire – and everything changes. With poetic clarity and subtle irony, Patricia Holland Moritz tells the story of a woman who appears to lose everything on New Year’s Eve.

From the night shelter to a hotel, from the first to the second temporary flat – within eight months, the narrator moves from one unfamiliar place to another, living out of a suitcase, adapting for the time being. Amidst the chaos, a long-cherished dream becomes a plan: she will pack her bags one last time and then leave for good. At the end of her journey lies the city where she always wanted to live … and the realisation that home is less a place than a feeling that is allowed to change.

Patricia Holland Moritz, born in Karl-Marx-Stadt, worked as a bookseller in Leipzig, left the GDR and took a job in Paris as a freight forwarding clerk. After studying North American Studies in Berlin for a few semesters, she became a booker for various bands and later worked for publishing houses in Berlin. She has published several novels, most recently *Kaßbergen* (2021) and *Three Summers in Paris* (2025).
