For this, artists from various disciplines come together and, inspired by the process of translating poetry, translate poetry into and from other art forms such as dance, performance, sound, photography, video or sculpture. Principles such as “trans-positioning”, “superimposing” or “deconstructing” serve as mottos and guiding impulses. As with translation, the focus is on reading and listening carefully on the one hand, and experimenting with different versions of an ‘adaptation’ until a provisional final version is reached.
For the first event, themed ‘Zer-setzen’ and focusing on sound, Adrienne Herr and Júlia Koffler will respond to a cycle of poems by Elena Kaufmann with sound-based artworks.
- The event will take place in German and English.
- Moderator: Jul Dorsch
The ad hoc poetry collective, which currently has ten members, was founded in 2019 following the “open poems” poetry workshop at the Haus für Poesie in Berlin, with the aim of creating a shared space within the competitive economy of the literary scene. Their shared focus lies on interdisciplinary and performative formats for presenting poetry, collective writing and collective care practices. For “bitte -setzten”, a curatorial trio comprising collective members Manuel Imey, Eliana Kirkcaldy and Jul Dorsch is inviting artists with and without links to the ad hoc collective.
The “Kontext – Organising Literature” project by the Independent Reading Series will run from 2025 to 2028. It develops and tests new formats for literary events. This will result in a pool of innovative ideas that will be shared within the network of the Independent Reading Series and, beyond that, throughout the literary scene.
- This event has been organised as part of ‘Kontext – Organising Literature’, a project by the Independent Reading Series.
- Funded by the Federal Cultural Foundation.
