Gibrana Cervantes & Geraldo Salas

A rare live concert by the Oscar-winning musician and composer Daniel Blumberg, who works at the intersection of experimental music, improvisation and film music.

With his four solo albums released on Mute – *Minus* (2018), *Liv* (2019), *On&On* (2020) and *GUT* (2023) – he has developed a musical practice in which songwriting, improvisation and abstraction are in constant dialogue with one another. As a collaborator with avant-garde musicians such as Keiji Haino, Maggie Nichols, Elvin Brandhi and Joel Grip (to name but a few), he creates music that leaves room for uncertainty and allows sounds to resist a definitive resolution.

As a film composer, he is best known for his score to Brady Corbet’s *The Brutalist* (2025), in which raw emotional depth and epic dimensions are combined with radical sonic experiments. His score for Gianfranco Rosi’s *Sotto le Nuvole* (Pompei: Below the Clouds, 2025) takes a different approach: a subliminal, unsettling soundscape of woodwind resonances, distorted tones and Foley textures that unfolds in parallel with the cinematic portrait of Naples – a city whose history is shaped by the traces of its own buried past. Blumberg distorts and deconstructs the sounds of acoustic instruments until they hover somewhere between the human and the mechanical, the familiar and the unknown.

Alongside his musical work, Blumberg is also active as a visual artist. His silver-point drawings have been exhibited internationally, including at the Venice Biennale, the KW Berlin, the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg and at Balice Hertling in Paris. His work in the fields of music, film and the visual arts is united by an interest in what emerges when familiar forms are transformed beyond recognition.

Gibrana Cervantes is a Mexican violinist and composer based in Berlin. Her work straddles the boundaries between experimental music and contemporary performance. She conceives of the violin as an extended instrument that moves between melody, fragility, distortion and noise. Through amplification, effects and a physical approach to the instrument, she develops performances in which repetition, transformation and the unpredictable play a central role.

Her solo album *verdad y error* (AWOS, 2026) brings together musical ideas that have emerged over a long period of time through live performances and studio recordings. Layered and processed violin sounds move between intimate melodies and dense textures. The work explores the search for tranquillity amidst uncertainty and the shifting nature of memory.

Cervantes composes and performs for Florentina Holzinger, including for SANCTA, A Year Without Summer and SEA WORLD VENICE, which will be presented in 2026 at the Austrian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. She also works on Holzinger’s projects as co-composer and co-musical director. She is a member of the experimental ensemble Amor Muere, alongside Mabe Fratti, Concepción Huerta and Camille Mandoki. In this performance, Cervantes appears alongside Gerardo Salas.
