Mei Liu
Drawing on Mei Liu’s three-year artistic research, the lecture-performance *Homesick for Another World* transports the audience into the dark, vast and uncharted world of lucid dreaming. In Liu’s semi-fictional narrative, the dream state emerges as a reaction to oppressive political systems, physical confinement, various forms of immobility and the longing for freedom.
Through a variety of characters and stories, the lecture-performance traverses a series of worlds, interweaving dreams, dark socio-political realities, cognitive neurology and Daoist inner cosmologies. In doing so, Liu explores the extent to which loneliness and despair can open up alternative imaginary worlds for solidarity and resistance.
