An almost forgotten artist
How do you commemorate someone of whom hardly anything remains? Pupils at the Goethe-Gymnasium in Berlin-Wilmersdorf are exploring this question in a joint project with the Berlin Museum and the ‘Fritz Ascher Society’.
- They are now showcasing the results in an open-plan area within the permanent exhibition ‘BerlinZEIT’.
The focus is on the life of the Berlin painter and poet Fritz Ascher (1893–1970). Following persecution and the war, his art was long forgotten. Drawing on the few traces that remain of him, the participants have developed their own perspective on his life. In doing so, they also asked themselves: how can people today remember him? At the opening, the pupils will showcase what they have discovered and how they have come to understand Fritz Ascher.
The ‘Freiflächen’ (open spaces) at ‘BerlinZEIT’ explore current Berlin-based themes. They create space for new perspectives, for exchange and participation.
