Guided tour of the temporary exhibition
The exhibition ‘Skateboarders and Rollerboarders Before and After the Fall of the Berlin Wall’ uses photographs and selected artefacts to showcase the skateboarding scene in Germany before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall. It documents the evolution from a leisure activity to a professional sport and highlights that skateboarding is not just a sport, but a way of life in its own right.
The accompanying text provides an insight into the development of the German skateboarding scene, highlights the differences between West Germany and the GDR, and takes a look at the present day.
Since when has skateboarding been popular in Germany? How did the SED regime react to this new leisure sport? What challenges did skaters face in the GDR? And what values and distinctive features characterise the scene?
- Registration takes place before the tour begins at the information desk in the exhibition.
