This small portrait of Immanuel Kant forms part of the Gemäldegalerie’s collection of miniatures. Beginning with an accessible introduction to Kant’s aesthetics, Dieter Wenk uses selected works from the collection to shed light on the significance of his aesthetics of autonomy. In doing so, he vividly illustrates the complex relationship between the image and philosophical theory.
