Dr. Stefanie Heckmann (Berlinische Galerie) with Dr. Andreas Schalhorn (Kupferstichkabinett Berlin)

Lovis Corinth produced not only over 1,000 paintings, but also some 1,100 prints. Particularly following his stroke in 1911, Corinth devoted himself intensively to various printmaking techniques.

Alongside series of prints on historical and literary themes, he produced many scenes of private life, self-portraits and studio scenes. He also frequently drew on motifs from his own paintings. He captured Berlin’s Tiergarten, situated in the immediate vicinity of his family home on Klopstockstraße, in numerous drypoint etchings.

The Kupferstichkabinett Berlin holds a high-quality collection of prints by Corinth and is a partner in the exhibition.
