With ‘ada19 – Companionship’, ada Studio is continuing a series of events launched in autumn 2025, which aims to promote greater sustainability in dance practice and to provide long-term support for choreographers.

Laura Kassé and Bahar Meric, who have been guests at ada Studio in very different projects in recent years (Bahar in 2015, Laura in 2023), present the performative installation (M)Otherhood. Together with a video artist and a sound artist, they create a space in which movement, visual elements and sound coalesce into a multi-layered, walk-through experience.

In terms of content, Bahar and Laura bring together their individual research on the theme of motherhood. (M)Otherhood explores motherhood not as a place of care, but as a space of conflict in which generations, bodies and contradictory expectations overlap. The central question is: what do mothers pass on to their children – and what do daughters want to do differently? Which behaviours, feelings or patterns remain embedded in the body, and where do breaks occur and new paths emerge?

The work brings together different perspectives on motherhood, shaped by diverse biographical backgrounds, experiences of belonging and societal perceptions. In particular, it incorporates the diasporic perspective and experiences of motherhood with Black children.

(M)Otherhood understands motherhood as a dynamic process – characterised by closeness and distance, repetition and change, and the tension between passing on traditions and setting boundaries.
