Literature and Art in a Society of Migration

How can migrant literature be preserved? An evening of conversation with music by Sema Moritz.

The history of Ararat Verlag began with the book *Des Märchens Kern* by Vasıf Öngören. Founded in Stuttgart and later relocating to Berlin, it was one of the first publishers of Turkish literature in the German-speaking world in the late 1970s.

We will be talking to publisher Ahmet Işık Doğan and cultural and literary scholar Nesrin Tanç about the migrant literary scene and the relationship between literature, visual arts and music. In doing so, we will explore how this cultural heritage can be safeguarded for the future.

The book-artwork *Hommage an Istanbul* will also be presented. It combines drawings by the artist Hanefi Yeter with texts and a CD featuring songs from the German-Turkish music project *Sema & Taksim*. The project’s singer, Sema Moritz, will be our guest this evening and will perform a few songs live.

The Migration Storytelling Salon

With the ‘Migration Storytelling Salon’, the Berlin Museum presents a quarterly series of events. In these sessions, participants from migrant and diaspora communities share their stories of migration and resistance. In the spirit of storytelling and oral history, the aim is to share everyday stories from the perspective of migration. The setting is informal: participants exchange experiences and present photo albums, music or videos that accompany their stories. Visitors are invited to bring their own objects, photos or documents.
