Vortex is a quartet led by the composer and saxophonist Grgur Savić, which operates at the intersection of contemporary jazz, composed music and free improvisation.

The ensemble combines fixed structures with open forms and regards composition and improvisation as different degrees of organisation within the musical process. Savić’s compositions serve as starting points, allowing form, timbre, texture and musical direction to emerge from real-time interaction.
Inspired by free jazz, contemporary composition and the Berlin tradition of ‘real-time music’, Vortex develops music in which structure and spontaneity are in constant dialogue.
