For a story not to fall apart, it needs a common thread to hold it together. The eighth issue of Weiter Schreiben magazine is entitled ‘Threads, Fabrics, Cuts’. The texts within deal with scarves, carpets or trousers – but these are no ordinary items: the textiles tell of resistance expressed through clothing, of centuries-old cultural techniques and of profound longings. And their authors show us that life is like knitting: one must always be ready to improvise.
