In the post-war period, Tempelhof Airport was both a scene of and a symbol of the division of Germany. During the Berlin Blockade of 1948–49, the ‘raisin bombers’ landing here brought food and other supplies to the western part of the city. Just a few kilometres away ran the border between East and West Berlin, which later became the Berlin Wall.

There were some areas of Tempelhof Airport that travellers and staff never saw: air-raid shelters, a mysterious film bunker and US military premises bear witness to the site’s largely unknown functions.

The ‘Hidden Places’ guided tour offers insights into the airport’s use during the Nazi era and the subsequent presence of the US Air Force.
