Opening | Christoph Schlingensief: Es ist nicht mehr mein Problem, macht eure Scheiße alleine

Through his work, Christoph Schlingensief cast a relentless gaze on the injustices of the present day. With *It’s Not My Problem Anymore, Sort It Out Yourselves*, the Gropius Bau is dedicating an exhibition to him that illuminates his visionary oeuvre, spanning sensational political actions, radical theatrical productions and the fusion of performance and visual art.

The exhibition is not intended as a traditional retrospective, but rather brings key bodies of Schlingensief’s work into dialogue with one another. It demonstrates how his artistic strategies intertwine and repeatedly challenged the audience to adopt an active stance.

In this first comprehensive exhibition in Berlin for over 10 years, the focus is therefore not on the completed body of work, but on the process of questioning, doubting and failing that characterises Schlingensief’s practice: ‘In my view, one can fail with enthusiasm, joy and determination. [...] If one manages, deep down, to accept that failure is necessary to harness one’s strengths, a great deal will happen.”
