Uzma Falak und Mukahang Limbu
Uzma Falak and Mukahang Limbu open this year’s edition of Middle Ground with poetry characterised by two distinct approaches to place and geography.
Falak, who lives and writes in Srinagar, Kashmir, explores how occupation, violence and enforced forgetting find their way into language, memory and everyday life.
Mukahang is a British-Nepalese poet whose work explores migration, family and the experience of growing up between Nepal and the UK. Together, they explore how invisibility, familial and linguistic ties, closeness and distance relate to the complex question of leaving and staying – and what it means to exist between a ‘home’ and an ‘elsewhere’.
