9th European Restoration Day
In the special exhibition *Portraits!*, which opened on 15 October, visitors are presented with numerous works from the Gemäldegalerie in new contexts. In preparation for this exhibition, the conservators carried out extensive work on the paintings from the gallery’s own collection.

In a talk accompanying the exhibition, Kerstin Krainer and Marie Becker will provide insights into the tasks and approaches involved in painting restoration.
The focus is on the painting *Portrait of a Dead Man* by Bartholomäus Bruyn the Younger, which, due to its condition, had previously been in storage and was not on display to visitors. It was thoroughly examined and extensively restored for the exhibition. It can now be displayed again for the first time in around 130 years.
