The Black community is not a monolith – so why should its cinema be one? *The Black Gaze* brings together seven films that do not turn Black lives into the object of a gaze, but instead allow them to determine where the gaze is directed.

Representation in front of the camera alone is not enough for them – they look at who is working behind the scenes: who is holding the camera? Who determines the perspective and who writes the script?
A woman travels to visit her ancestors, a bookshop becomes a queer community space, a boxer dreams of leaving, and a sound artist listens to melting ice.
Between pain and joy, memory and the future, these works do not present a homogeneous Black experience, but rather a multitude of perspectives, voices and forms of resistance.
