International Short Film Festival Berlin - DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION
In times when even the simple act of looking at something is already political, how quickly can documentary filmmaking morph into filmmaking activism? In six documentary shorts, the camera's gaze, looking itself, manifests as a political act. A woman films Teheran post-evacuation, Alaa records his everyday life under occupation, protestors in Berlin encounter the watchful lenses of police cameras and a letter asks whether revolutions can also start behind one's own windows. Their gazes refuse to remain neutral – they hold a mirror to the powerful, stay resilient, express opposition and show us what must be seen.
