Queer Thursday: Film screening

The film "Viel zu viel verschwiegen" uses interviews to tell the history and personal stories of a number of lesbians who were active in the GDR: publishing a lesbian magazine illegally under the protection of the church; facilitating networking and exchange amongst women in the GDR, some of whom were very isolated; and campaigning for the creation of meeting places for lesbians.

Later, during the period of political upheaval, they were politically active in order to safeguard social gains for women and lesbians within the new social order and to further develop the social structures that had emerged – structures which, in many places, still house alternative centres for queer people and/or women today.

The film was shot in 1990–91 by Christina Karstädt and Annette von Zitzewitz.

Numerous women and lesbians from the GDR movement and the years of upheaval have their say.

Anette von Zitzewitz, the filmmaker, will be present at the screening and will answer questions from the audience.
