A concert-reading based on Oscar Wilde
Oscar Wilde’s first work of fiction, *The Canterville Ghost*, begins entirely in the tradition of Romantic ghost stories: a well-to-do American family purchases an English country house, complete with a dutifully haunting ghost.
But Wilde promptly turns the tables: the new owners of Canterville show no fear of the ghost whatsoever; on the contrary, they thwart his attempts to haunt the house until the ghost himself begins to fear the family.
Actor Matthias Matschke and musician and sound artist Stefan Weinzierl will bring Oscar Wilde’s humorous satire of the Victorian zeitgeist and the dawn of capitalism to the stage of the Ernst-Reuter-Saal on 17 October, at the invitation of the Komödie am Kurfürstendamm.
