It is the story of a rather crazy idea that turned into an extraordinary success story. Of pop hits that became anthems. Of concerts that have long since become rituals. Of bell-bottoms, sunflowers, glitter and bouffant hairstyles.

And of that very special feeling when, after just the first few bars, thousands of people know: today we’re going to celebrate together.

There’s still a bit of a wait until summer 2027 – but the DTK magic is already coming to cinemas: “AND IT WAS SUMMER – DIETER THOMAS KUHN & BAND” takes a touching, honest and humorous look behind the scenes and tells the story of what has sustained this phenomenon for decades: passion, friendship, solidarity – and the unshakeable confidence that, somehow, things will always carry on. In cinemas from 17 September 2026.

In recent years, however, Dieter Thomas Kuhn & Band have rarely taken to the stage together. Philipp Feldtkeller’s health has made many performances impossible. As it is impossible to predict how the situation will develop, the band has decided, with a heavy heart, that 2027 will see one last series of big joint evenings – and they are to be the final ones.

To mark the occasion, they’ll be pulling out all the stops once more: the big hits and the perhaps even bigger memories. The flared trousers. The sunflowers. The glitter. The blow-dry waves. Because anyone who was ever there knows: an evening with Dieter Thomas Kuhn & Band was never just a concert.

Many fans have been with them since the early years. Together, they’ve partied, danced and sung, made friends, fallen in love, got married and had children.

Others joined later. But no matter when it all began: over the years, the audience has become a community that has accompanied and supported this band.

“If we’re going to say goodbye, let’s do it with a bang. Give it our all one last time, pull out all the stops and celebrate together in complete ecstasy. I hope our fans will be there. Because these nights shouldn’t just be lovely – they should be unforgettable,” says Dieter Thomas Kuhn.

Over the decades, an extraordinarily close bond with his audience has developed, fuelled by countless nights spent together, that very special energy and a feeling that’s almost impossible to describe when thousands celebrate and come together in front of the stage.

The realisation that this might be the last time to experience all of this on such a scale makes these evenings a deeply emotional affair for the band too.
