Nikolai Music on Fridays – Manuals of the Present

In ‘Music from Art’, you’ll hear works by artists who, alongside paintings, conceptual art and installations, also conceived or created music. These include Hanne Darboven, Lyonel Feininger and Annika Kahrs.

Sound works by art students enter into a fascinating dialogue with organ music from earlier centuries.

About the concert series

From October 2026 to April 2027, a programme of concerts will accompany Annika Kahrs’ sound installation *Chorus*. It is curated by Beate Tast-Kasper from the Berlin Museum.

Part of the programme is the concert series ‘Nikolai Music on Friday: Manuale des Jetzt’.

Curated by the composer and organist Alexander Moosbrugger, it presents the organ as an instrument of the present day. The title refers to the manual, the keyboard of an organ that is played with the hands. With changing thematic focuses, the concerts combine contemporary music with Berlin’s urban and intellectual history. They address current social issues and showcase the organ as a living instrument of our time.
