In their book *Oberbrechen: A German Village Confronts its Nazi Past* (2025), Stefanie Fischer and Kim Wünschmann examine the complexity of the relationships between Jewish and non-Jewish members of the village of Oberbrechen in Hesse.

Conceived as a ‘graphic history’, the book explores the microcosm of a village community and its history of violence during the Nazi era, illustrating how local people coped with the ever-present yet largely unspoken reality of the Holocaust.
It also examines how varying degrees of involvement in anti-Jewish exclusion affected the reunions between Jews and non-Jews after 1945. For the study, numerous files from denazification tribunals, restitution and compensation cases, as well as private sources from family archives, were analysed.
