The history of our print workshop began in 1928 in the heart of Kreuzberg. At the manual typesetting stations, Otto Schneider and, later, his son Gerd carried out commissions for the bustling business community of the neighbourhood. Printing was carried out using both the platen and cylinder printing methods.
The guided tour shows how so-called commercial print jobs were produced right up until the 1980s – from business cards and letterheads to wedding announcements and price lists.
And it’s not just about watching: every visitor can pick up a ‘Winkelhaken’ and set a short line – just as Johannes Gutenberg invented the process in the 15th century.
Prof. (ret.) Dr Anne König, a letterpress printer and former professor of business administration specialising in the printing industry and publishing, provides insights into the history of the workshop and the traditional methods of hand-setting and letterpress printing.
