Kesselhaus
The conceptual artist Mischa Kuball (born 1959 in Düsseldorf, lives in Düsseldorf) uses light as a medium to explore architectural spaces as well as social and political discourses. In his projects, he reflects on socio-cultural structures and creates interventions in which he emphasises or reinterprets contexts from the history of architecture.

For KINDL’s impressive boiler house, Mischa Kuball has developed ‘boiler house’, a site-specific work that links the present and the history of the exhibition venue.
At the centre is a system of rotating mirrors that allow the emptiness of the space to be experienced at different speeds: slow rotation expands the space, whilst rapid rotation breaks it down into fleeting fragments. Through the movement of the reflections alone, a space is thus created in which emptiness is not a state, but a dynamic process. Through the boiler house’s continuous windows, this space extends into the exterior of the KINDL: what appears inside as a fragile architecture of reflections becomes, outside, a public light installation acting as a membrane between the institution and the neighbourhood.
At the opening, the installation will be brought to life through sound and performance, with interventions by Severin Black and Abi Asisa.
