Concept and Development: Sanna Vrij, Anne van de Wetering

Following STUDIO 66 last season, STUDIO 55 kicks off this season: The Neuköllner Oper has invited five individual artists and collectives—who will perform in various productions during the 26/27 season—to offer insights into their creative processes through 11-minute mini-performances, thereby providing a preview of the 26/27 season.

The formula is simple: 1 studio x 5 artists x 11 minutes = STUDIO 55. Most importantly, the artists do not develop these miniature performances on their own. For one week, they spend time together at NO, working on their respective performances, supporting one another, engaging in spontaneous collaborations, and thereby creating connections between their artistic practices. The starting point at the beginning of the week is, first and foremost, one long minute that each artist brings with her. Over the course of the week, this is then developed together into an approximately 11-minute performance.

While Sanna Vrij and Anne van de Wetering participated as artists themselves last time, this time at Studio 55 they are taking on the role of directors, thereby further developing the Studio XX principle from generation to generation, from season to season.

The participating artists are: composer and performer Annelinde Bruijs (VIEW FROM NOWHERE), actress Monika Freiberger (DARK SCHLAGER), singer Anna Lucia Rupp (HUNTER), composer and music producer Manuela Schininà (BLUE HOUR), performer Viola Schmitzer (PÖBELARIEN), composer and musician Sarah Taylor Ellis (DARK CHRISTMAS), and performer Sarah Thom (BLUE HOUR).
