BAB Series “My Neighborhood: Stories of Divided Berlin” in Lichtenberg

Werner Teske, an employee of the Ministry for State Security, was executed 45 years ago. The last death sentence in the GDR was carried out against him.

The feature film “Nahschuss” (Germany, 2021), starring Lars Eidinger, is based on the Teske case and shows how mistrust, surveillance, and the pressure to be loyal also operated within the apparatus of power.

Following the screening, filmmaker Franziska Stünkel and Prof. Daniela Münkel, head of the Education and Research Department at the Stasi Records Archive, will speak with BAB researcher Anna Kokenge about the film, the historical case, and how to deal with the legacy of the State Security.
