BAB Series “My Neighborhood: Stories of Divided Berlin” in Lichtenberg
Katja Lange-Müller grew up in Lichtenberg as the daughter of SED politician Inge Lange. After she was forced to leave school at age 16 due to “anti-socialist” behavior, she worked for six years as a nursing assistant at what was then the Specialized Hospital for Neurology and Psychiatry, now known as the KEH.

She wrote her first literary works during her night shifts. In 1984, she moved to West Berlin. Following a reading of selected texts, Lange-Müller will discuss how her experiences in Lichtenberg continue to shape her writing to this day and how writing took shape on both sides of the Wall.
