An evening of music and cabaret to combat forgetting, featuring “Chanson-Nette” with Harry Ermer on piano and harmonica

Chansons & Jazz—do they go together? “Of course, perfectly,” say “Chanson-Nette” Jeannette Urzendowsky and Harry Ermer.

They strike an artistic balance between the two genres. With both joy and depth, they successfully bridge the gap between the “intelligent song”—the chanson—and a wide variety of jazz styles. Welcome to the musical cabaret evening “Chanson Meets Jazz”!

Around 1900, jazz made its way from the U.S. to Europe. It quickly evolved into further variations, culminating in swing in the 1920s and 1930s. Berlin, the capital of the arts, offered plenty of stages for this.

Cabaret and chanson were also enjoying their heyday at that time. Poets and performers took on bourgeois narrow-mindedness with political, critical, and witty satire.

Jeannette Urzendowsky & Harry Ermer enrich their

chanson and jazz medley with entertaining cabaret and music stories. In doing so, they pay tribute to the great artists who helped shape German-language song and chanson, as well as the early days of jazz in Europe.

“Chanson Meets Jazz” is also an evening dedicated to keeping memories alive! In memory of artists and their works,

who fell victim to fascist ideology.

For “Chanson-Nette” Jeannette Urzendowsky, this is a matter close to her heart. She is an honorary ambassador of the German Cabaret Archive.
