This is particularly true for the identity of the more than 2.5 million German citizens with a Russian-German (late) resettler background. The conference will examine the background, effects, and consequences of the deportations and draw connections to current issues of remembrance and integration.
The event takes place under the patronage and with financial support from the Federal Government Commissioner for Resettlement Issues and National Minorities.
As part of the conference, a discussion event titled “Deportation and Remembrance: 85th Anniversary of the Forced Resettlement of the Russian Germans in 1941” will take place on Friday, September 18, starting at 6:30 p.m., to mark the anniversary of the deportations.
The conference will be held both in person at the Documentation Center for Flight, Expulsion, and Reconciliation and via live stream.
An event organized by the Commission for Germans in and from Eastern Europe, Siberia, Central Asia, and the Caucasus in cooperation with the Nordost-Institut in Lüneburg, the Museum and Cultural Department for Russian-German Cultural History in Detmold, and the Documentation Center for Flight, Expulsion, and Reconciliation in Berlin.
