What can letters, diaries, and other handwritten documents reveal about flight and displacement? Personal accounts shed light on the individual experiences of German refugees and displaced persons. Many of these texts are written in Sütterlin script.

Familiengeschichten entziffern – Einführung in Sütterlin
A brief introduction to the history of the script will be followed by a hands-on exploration of the letters and a group session deciphering selected short texts from the Documentation Center’s collection. Participants are welcome to bring their own documents to practice reading historical manuscripts.
