Film series Augenblicke im Schlosscke

In a jarring blend of violence, linguistic experimentation, and classical music, Kubrick crafts a harrowing dystopia about the conditioning of free will.

The stylized visual language, Beethoven’s compositions, and abstract exaggeration make the film a bitter satire on power, lust, and social control.

In addition to two Oscar nominations, the film won the New York Film Critics Circle Award (Best Picture, Best Director) and was ranked 81st on the British Film Institute’s 1999 list of the greatest British films of all time. On the list of the 100 greatest British films published by Empire magazine in 2016, it ranks 11th.
