Superstition and family honor play a major role in their lives, as do dance and music. Some of Ireland’s greatest musicians and dancers were or are “Travelers.” Had the Irish nomads not held fast to their traditions even in times when their subculture was viewed as backward, Irish folk music might well have disappeared from the scene.
Much like Native Americans, the Travellers also had to endure the loss of their way of life. Yet from this nomadic culture emerged a unique musical power. The Danceperados tell their story through moving songs, passionate dances, and an impressive multivision presentation. This unique combination of dance, music, and visual elements creates an atmosphere that touches and inspires the audience.
All live—no safety net
The Danceperados stand out clearly from many other productions: here, everything is performed and danced live. No playback, no stage illusions—instead, spontaneity, improvisation, and genuine energy. The audience feels this authenticity immediately.
The ensemble brings together some of Ireland’s best female dancers: together, they have won over 40 World Dancing Champion and All-Ireland titles. Michael Donnellan, himself a multiple World Champion, is responsible for the choreography. Musical direction is provided by accordion virtuoso Eimhin Liddy, accompanied by a quintet of award-winning female musicians, including All-Ireland Champions.
Enthusiasm from Audiences and the Media
Standing ovations and rave reviews prove it: The Danceperados succeed in perfectly blending culture and entertainment. For 15 years, this concept has been thrilling audiences and the press alike. Danceperados of Ireland—authentic, passionate, unique.
